RELATIONSHIP therapy in Kailua, Hawaii

Reconnect to others. Reconnect to yourself.

Are you stuck in a cycle of unhealthy romantic relationships or have a toxic relationship with a friend or family member?

The old saying, "relationships are hard," is seriously an understatement. Even when people get along really well, stress and daily life can cause conflicts that seem impossible to resolve.

We are hard wired for connection with others, and well, that is not always everything it’s cracked up to be. You may face a variety of relationship concerns. Maybe you are struggling to trust a spouse or partner. Maybe you are a working professional who feels undermined and belittled by a coworker or boss. Perhaps you do not feel as close to a friend due to frequent conflict.

Therapy can help resolve these concerns and leave you feeling more empowered in your relationships.

Your relationships are worth investing in.

Whether you’re entering a new relationship, moving on from a past one, or simply wanting to feel more secure and connected to those close to you…I’m here to help.

Individual counseling can help you understand who you are in relationships, as well as help you become the person you want to be. During the therapy process, we will explore several key areas of relating and “polish” those in need of a little shine.

We will look for reoccurring themes that show up in your relationships, which are generally learned in childhood and adolescence. We will make sense out of any unhealthy behaviors you may engage in and understand the reasons behind them. We will discuss healthy boundaries (a lot!) as they are essential for fulfilling, satisfying, and healthy relationships. Boundaries also create more confidence and leave you feeling self-assured in future/present relationships.

Often the core issue in relationships is understanding your needs and desires and being able to effectively communicate them. A breakdown in communication often causes tension and chaos, leaving one or both partners frustrated and upset. Effective communication is essential and you will learn to navigate this with ease.

What we’ll work on:

  • Identify your “pattern” of being in a relationship and the “blueprint” for those relationships you learned in childhood

  • Understand the reasons you choose the partners you do

  • Identify behaviors that are “red flags” and non-negotiables

  • Explore individual factors (e.g., personality traits, your worldview, past trauma) that may have an impact on your relationships

  • Identify and proudly name your strengths (e.g., traits, overcoming past challenges) that we can build on to help improve the health of your relationships

  • Discuss difficult thoughts or emotions that you’re experiencing related to your relationship problems (e.g., doubting your self worth)

  • Decisions and strategies for your relationships going forward (e.g., deciding what kind of relationships you want to have)
