ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, and RELATIONSHIP therapy in Kailua, Hawaii

You may be able to do it all alone, but you don’t have to.

Do you send a “representative” of yourself into all areas of your life, who appears self-sufficient, perfectionistic, driven, and able to handle the weight of the world? Does this cause you to secretly feel anxious, depressed, and unfulfilled in your relationships?

You’re in the right place.

I know that you can turn things around and therapy can help. My clients walk away from therapy with me feeling hopeful, heard, understood, relieved, and armed with the knowledge and skill to move forward with the life they envisioned. My therapy style is conversational and casual. I bring a real-life, no-nonsense approach to therapy with a side of humor (and maybe a bit of sarcasm).

I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches. Simply put, I help you to make sense of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and transform negative thinking patterns. In addition, I dig deep to discover how your past is affecting you now and identify unhealthy “blueprints” to life and relationships that you learned at an early age.

Therapy with me isn’t all listening & talking.

We’ll also work on real, practical skills that you can apply to your day-to-day life.

I won’t lie, therapy isn’t easy, but I promise you it will be worth it. We will accomplish a lot, but will do it in a way that you feel supported, understood, and finally feel like you have someone in your corner.

To ensure you are successful in achieving what you want out of therapy, I will give you actionable steps and skills to address what is getting in the way and create a plan forward.

Together we will:

  • Find out why you do the things you do and what’s really going on behind your behavior.

  • Take a close look at messages that shaped you during childhood and how it helped to create the person you are today.

  • Discover how your personality traits and style may benefit you, but also how they may be holding you back

  • Help you identity your patterns of relating and alter behavior that can strengthen your relationships

  • Identify reasons for ongoing anxiety that shows up as perfectionism, control, and overthinking

  • Help you identify deep hidden beliefs about yourself that directly contribute to depression and hopelessness

My guiding principles.

I believe that therapy is built upon a solid foundation of honesty, integrity, respect for autonomy, and generosity.

Genuineness

I pride myself in being genuine in everything I do. I am “real” with people - in both my personal and professional lives. My down-to-earth personality always shines through in therapy, which is a big part of who I am. Thankfully, this aspect is a huge reason that many have enjoyed working with me!

Connection

Please hear me when I say this—-your connection to your therapist WILL determine your success in therapy. It is important to me that we have a great working relationship, and I do everything I can to ensure we do. That of course, includes being genuine, respectful of your decisions, and accepting of the person you are. No strings attached.

Commitment

I am fully committed to helping you achieve the goals you have for therapy. Being committed means that I will often check in with you to see if we are “on track” in meeting your goals, ask you for feedback regarding our sessions, and encourage you to let me know if I “miss” something or understood you incorrectly. I truly want to see you progress, and I love to celebrate in your successes!
